Union for Progressive Judaism votes BPJC to full Membership

On Sunday 2 November in Melbourne, Brisbane Progressive Jewish Congregation (BPJC) was admitted as a member of the Union for Progressive Judaism (UPJ). The decision followed a twelve month post-application assessment period, in accordance with the UPJ’s membership policy. In responding to the decision at the UPJ Annual General Meeting, Congregation President Tony Leverton acknowledged the hard work of a team of dedicated Congregation members since BPJC's formation in January 2007. Family Kabbalat Shabbat services

Our Kabbalat Shabbat services have become a popular event featuring a family-friendly service, after dinner speaker and dessert. Our next service will be held at Cubberla Hall, Fig Tree Pocket State School at 7:00pm on Friday November 28. Dessert and refreshments will be provided. The dessert speaker will be our own Dr Harry Smith on a range of topics including his medical research and Judaism in the world today.

To cover our costs, non-members are asked to provide a donation on entry. Your continued support is appreciated.

Dates for future Kabbalat Shabbat services are on our services page.

Jewish students in Brisbane

BPJC welcomes and supports all Jewish students visiting or studying in Brisbane. All students are welcome to attend our services and festivals. We offer discounted entry to our events and can also help with transport. As Hillel does not have a presence in Brisbane, BPJC can provide students with chaplaincy and advocacy support through Cantor David Bentley. Leadership opportunities are available within our congregation and the wider Brisbane Jewish community through our affiliations with Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies, State Zionist Council of Queensland and other community groups
